Biting cork and graphite
Why do some yahoos find it necessary to chew on their rods when having a hero shot taken of them and their fish?
Who started this insanity and why does it persist?
It seems especially common in those who catch redfish. I sincerely hope nobody on TKF is guilty of this.
This last guy seems especially angry at something. Wierd pose too.

well if there taking their pic right off the water i could see why they dont want their real touching the ground, i dont feel disturbed by it, or if they got a good sized fish that neds to be held with 2 hands(10+lbs) i guess your gonna need to hold your reel in your mouth....and then their those anglers who just like showing off their gear

I'm deeply disturbed by it.
Aside from getting all sorts of swell bacteria in your pie hole, there's the undeniable aspect of looking like a malnourished loony.
Is the next fad piercing ears with full stringers of fish?

Post this in the Fly fishing section. You might get an answer, though I assume it's just something other Fly fishermen do because other Fly fishermen do.
I don't see a problem with it...
Fishing in general isn't the go to sport for the overly hygiene conscious sportsman. Couldn't be any worse than swimming in the water the fisherman is fishing, or munching on cinnabon at your local mall.

Too funny. I would imagine it's for practical reasons, to take a picture of the fish horizontally without your rod getting dunked. Or some think it looks cool, I don't know. I took a picture like this once, because I was in chest deep water with a not-so-cheap setup. I either had to balance it on my head or hold it in my teeth. I had tried the armpit method first and almost dropped my pole in the water when I held the fish up, so after that I opted for the more secure approach.Cuervo Jones wrote:I'm deeply disturbed by it.
Also, the photo of Bud Rowlands record fish was taken with him posing for the camera like this. Everyone wants to dunk like Jordan...
Re: Biting cork and graphite
or putting your rod butt in your armpit like I do when tying knots, taking fish off the hook, stringing fish or posing for pics. Haven't noticed pit stains on my cork.BlackRifle wrote:Fishing in general isn't the go to sport for the overly hygiene conscious sportsman. I like the Bud Rowland's theory. Monkey see monkey do, then monkey fling do.
Cork munching just looks so stupid.
There's no excuse for it.
Think of the children.
Please.
Won't somebody think of the children?!

Re: Biting cork and graphite
I do it when I tie quick knots while wading. I don't want my reel dunked in the water.
It's my rod, I'll bite it if I want!!!

I think it has to more to do with "look at me I caught this fish on a fly rod" I agree its very silly looking.
The third guy in your first post wasnt angry he just looks like he is preparing for his morning post coffee ritual. The fish just happened to jump into the photo!
