Colonial Golf event participants

If you plan on being at the Colonial golf event, and being on time post below. They need an accurate head count for tickets. If you can't make it, then don't post. Just trying to make things easier for whomever is in charge.

I just spoke with Britt, who is the PR person for the colonial.

There are enough tickets for the first 15 people that sign up. The rest can paddle down river and back up if you wish. The more the merrier, and could make a nice blimp shot?

This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to advance our sport! Surely SOMEONE is able and willing to do this? There's free TKF Stickers and a hat for everyone who participates. All I need is a picture of your group as you enter the tournamen grounds. I'm stuck here in the Rio Grande Valley or I'd be there with you.

g/f and I are planning on yakin sat morning but do not really want to stay out all day. If we meet up paddle a bit fish a bit is there a certain time they would be defiantly done shooting and interviewing by? Not a huge golf fan neither is she but we will paddle a bit to support TKF and kayak fishing, So we might be in for the paddle but but would not need tickets, any idea on a time line for being finished?????????

I don't think the filming is going to take any more than 30 minutes honestly.

They will probably just get a few random shots and stretch it out to about a minutes worth of video.

Double-dip, bring that TKF flag and we will see about lashing it to someone's Yak for a little free advertising.

I'm possibly in for this also. Will know for sure later tonight or first thing in the AM.

Is everyone going to rig up as if we're fishing or just simply paddle to the event?

Sally and I are going. Will call Britt later this morning. Will also send email to all TKFers who came to the Grapevine Crawdad and promote this. I'm not a golfer, but could be a fun time and promote yaks. And I think they serve cold adult beverages there!!!

So it looks like it will be:

Double Dip
Pink Lady
Steelstring+1
Myself
Kingfisher+1
Who else?

I was thinking about bringing a pole and throwing a line in the water for a while before heading up to the event.

Has anyone checked into just exactly what their new "environmental" plans are? As many are aware, a golf course is probably one of the worst things you can do to the environment.

Pesticide/herbicide/fertilizer runoff
Lawn mower exhaust/fuel usage
Reducing biodiversity,
Water usage

In general there have been improvements with course design and maintainance, but I would hate to think we are unwitting props helping them put lipstick on the pig.

This is the "green initiative" they are advertising, basically encouraging attendees to use alternate forms of transportation.

I think I'm out guys :( , but it does look fun. Some things to be aware of though:
1) The parking lot described for the departure is actually a two level garage, so if you carry your yaks on top of a truck watch the clearance.
2) Also, the sidewalk on Rogers Road isn't the widest so use caution with the traffic.
3) If the river is up then the takeout should be easy, otherwise it could be muddy and/or a big step up to the bank so plan accordingly. Wouldn't be much fun walking around all afternoon with muddy feet :)
4) It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to paddle the distance either I would think.

I drive right by this area on the way home from work, so if y'all would like me to stop and see what the conditions really look like let me know. I could probably snap a couple of cell phone pics...

A scouting of the area would be great.

The garage has a ramp to the upper level, which is at grade on the river side.

There does appear to be a bar to restrict high loads:

http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=2&F ... &encType=1

If necessary, it looks like you can pull around to the back of the garage and unload your Yak and then go park.

Also, be mindful that we will need to carry yaks across the Rogers bridge, so we will either need to help each other, or pack carts in if you have them.

This is what the takeout area looked like as of last summer (I just happen to have done some work on that site):

1) can you paddle the other way for a longer paddle in the morning (if we're meeting at 10:30 and the paddle takes 10 minutes and we're suppose to be at the bridge at 11:30 is there a good area to paddle more)

2) while the g/f probably will want to just paddle I need to fish are there any fish cuz i really need to fish (if so anyone getting there earlier to fish :D )

Just talked to Britt. Sounds like some of the local stations will be there also along with CBS Sports.

Treehugger will be our Point of Contact ( POC). Post up here and PM him if you are coming. We can have at least 8 more. Sounds like a lot of fun. I will volunteer to get muddy if needed at the put in and pull out points.

I afraid I am busy on Saturday and will not make it, but will tape it. (for evidence.)

I have a good friend that works very near there and does well fishing below the spillways. I looked at it from Google earth and it looks like small damns near the club. I did not even know they were there.

Also, just a thought;

If they do some interviews and you really want to further our sport, don't forget to include the ladies in the interviews. Remember,,,, if Mama wants to try it,,, Daddy has it made. :D

Besides, they talk gooder than we do and are purtier too.
