Claudette's approaching, good time for reel maintenance...

Post by Joe Guilbeau »

After posting some info on cleaning bait casting reels, I thought that now might be a good time to post information on Shimano's Web Site for service and maintenance of their reels, since Claudette is meanering all over the Gulf making up her fickle mind as to where she will breach the shoreline.

This website is another of the benefits Shimano users get when they buy asks their products. They cost a bit more, but they also publish the exploded service diagrams for most of their products and give a pretty good description on how to go about servicing it to boot.

With this information, any one can service and maintain their own reels, and if you have ever had your reel serviced by a "professional", they usually only give you back about 4 (four) parts that they change out, these parts can readily be changed out by anyone who takes the time to get familiar with the diagrams and has a flourescent magnifier lamp handy.

These parts are available in Dallas from a discount house, just call them up with a Model and Part Number and you are on your way.

Yep, they cost a bit more, and yep, they deliver just a bit more to boot.

And for you folks on Galveston's West End, get off the island, OK?

Come back when she passes.
