WELCOME TO TEXAS! (pics)
WELCOME TO TEXAS! (pics)
Today I had the priviledge of fishing with a couple guys who havent been in texas very long...Gordo wannafish and freespool. We had plans to hit the water this morning, and my goal was to get freespool on his first TEXAS fish.
this pictures of freespool on the water on the ICW...talk about an AWESOME morning...NO wind, but it was a little cold BTW, gordo was a little under the weather so he didnt join us until later, at the PERFECT time, but I will get to that later.
the morning started slow, with freespool and me working our way down a deep cut. I pushed on and managed two reds, both small slots, but this trip wasnt about me, so I headed back to get freespool to come to the area I was fishing. Fish were gone by then, but, long story short (kinda) we wound up fishing a shell patch that the current was ripping through, right at the opening of a canal....PERFECT..
Within a few cast, freespool has done it...landed his first TEXAS FISH!!!
I felt good, no more worry about him getting skunked. From this point on, for about the next hour, it was simply ridiculous. We would have a fish hit our lure just about EVERY cast, landing reds one right after the other. Most of the fish were slots, with several 25" +. Now im feeling good, and we are having a blast, so we actually 'call our shot' We try for a double hook up, and guess what? We pulled it off!
Casting at the same time, with 10 feet of each other, I hook up on something HUGE...A few seconds later, freespool is hooked up...SWEET
About this time, Gordo is coming around the corner, just in time to get a picture of us...Me with an nice red (right about 28") and freespool with a 24"er
That was my personal best inshore red...only a week after my LAST personal best The bite slowed, but that didnt keep gordo from getting some nice fish himself! This guy came in right over 26"
The day ended with well over two dozen fish caught, and a nice breeze to get us back to the launch...
I just wanna say these are some great guys, we had a great time, and Im happy to be a part of such a good trip. And freespool, glad I got to share your first texas fish!!!!

Redline
Good Report. Man, with all of the freshwater runoff, I have been hanging back. I was in the Freeport area this afternoon, and the river was running wild. I figured water in the whole area was off color and fresh.
Someday I'll learn, Can't catch 'em if you don't go.
Again, Great day and great report.

Let me start by thanking Redline for letting me fish with him. I have been fishing all my life, all over the US and a few other places. It is rare to get on a spot at just the perfect time like we did. He is not exaggerating when he said we hooked up a fish every cast. We did not get every one in, but we got the pull. There was so much action I just sat back a while to Watch Redline and Gordo bow some up. This has shown me that TX has lots of promise for my fishing future. Hope to get out on the water again soon.

They would bite any color soft plastic. We rigged them on RR jigheads. One of my jig heads saw so much action the rattle broke off. I could not tell you how many plastics I went through. When they slowed down the bite on one color or I ran out of the color I just changed to a different color and the bite was back on.
