Bob,

I'll let Dasu answer as to how he likes it, but I have the rod back, fixin' to sand the wraps and put another coat of varnish on them. It'll look muuuch better to my eyes when I'm done. 8)

We cast it with a silk line, though didn't have much room to do it. That particular silk was a DT 4, and just a little on the light side for that rod.

I don't know how much Dasu likes the rod, but after casting it on Saturday, I'd say that I like it a bunch.
Beautiful rod, casts great, whats not too like?

The existential question is -

will the rod like me?

After about 20 rods (no, not cane) in last 10 years, I have come to realize that each rod has its personality. therefore the question.

Of course the rod will like you, Dasu. Bamboo is a natural material, and as such becomes an extension of yourself. You must become one with the rod. Be the rod.

Bill,

Your 5 wt. is graphite, is it not? That might help explain things.

Well at least she had the common courtesy to hook up with a good carpenter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think horses and dogs are a pretty even trade for a fly tying station..........

LOL. That is true and he's one hell of a guy. I've known him a few years and he's one of the best carpenters I've ever known. He's from Spain and grew up learning carpentry there and in France, Germany, etc. He's got some styles that are quite impressive. He's also got a talent for woodburning and etching/carving incredible designs. I'll photo my fly kit/box when he gets done with it and post it.
