If anyone is interested in fishing for Bull Reds in either Galveston or Bolivar, feel free to join us as we hope to be making many trips during the 2023 Fall season run.

This is open water and the distance from the sand where we find the fish can be anywhere from 100 yds out to 1/2 mile.
You will need strong rods for big fish. No trout rods.

This is a FREE invite lol.. sometimes people think that they have to pay us for the free "guided" trip. We can lead y'all with our eyes closed, but you will have to supply everything yourself. Just trying to be nice and invite people who have always wanted to go.

Serious inquiries only please. Feel free to shoot me a text or reply here via PM. 346 500 3771

I can't make it Thursday.

What is the suggested terminal tackle?
Live bait, dead bait or artificial?

What is considered "heavy" tackle? I have setups from 4# to 100#.

I've never surf launched in TX. Is it like the Bob Hall Pier area? I think there are sand bars to contend with there.

With what frequency does the ferry run from Galveston to Bolivar? I think its 24 hours.

7 ft med heavy to heavy rod at least 20 to 30 lb line with 5 or 6 ft 200 lb mono leader and large circle hook with no weight. Large chunks of cut mullet is best bait, frozen if you don't have fresh. The big baits will help keep the snot sharks off your line. Float a bait under a balloon for sharks. 100 ft of anchor line with large float so you can unhook from your anchor if necessary and come back to it. Ferry's run continuously. High island is much better than Galveston sand bars aren't an issue there. I really miss the bull red run this time of year noting like it :cat:

Thanks! You answered two of my next questions.
I was wondering how to best avoid hooking sharks and if this was drifting, trolling or anchoring.
I've been fishing from a Hobie for 20+ years and have never anchored one.

There are 3 types of fish that you can catch at High island.
A. Bull Reds
B. Gafftops
C. Sharks

If you don’t want to be spooled or cutoff then use at least 50 lb braid ….. 6 ft of mono leader (100-200#), with 10-12” of steel before a 14/0-16/0 inline circle Mustad hook, a chunk of horse mullet.
The setup above will land a good fish
