Tod and I were going to fish together this morning but he was unavoidably detained, so it was “solo or no-go”. I’m glad I went, because the bite was strong all morning. Bird were diving over Spanish schools that were jumping, kings were eating a few of the Spanish, and a few rogue bunches of jacks were roving around eating their fill as well. After picking up a few fish I got out the fly rods and caught a Spanish on the 4wt, then a few more on the 6wt. I got several jacks to boil under the fly, but they wouldn’t quite commit to eating. A big king showed up on the surface and he was more cooperative. The eat was huge with foam and a loud splash, but he ate the fly, 14” of wire and part of the leader... oh well, it was very cool to watch. Landed over 40 Spanish and a couple of nice kings before needing to head back to work for an afternoon meeting.
