Greetings everyone. My name is David and I'm living down in San Antonio. Bought a kayak back in March and I've been fishing off it for a while. Looking to try some new lakes and link up with more experienced kayakers.
This weekend I think is Canyon Lake. Target species will be crappie and sunfish. Maybe bass too.
So what I need to know is:
1. Where is a convenient place to park and launch my kayak?
2. Any recommended fishing spots?
3. Anyone wanna join?
Thanks in advance and I hope to become an active member here.
Canyon Lake Kayak Launch Points

Welcome to the board. Not familiar at all with Canyon but I know TPWD has a lot of "fish attractors" they have placed. Here's a link to that site. https://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/re ... ture.phtml

The smartest one to keep in your pocket is the county (neighborhood?) park at Rebecca's Creek Crossing (the golf ball on 281).
This gets you into the upper backwaters of Canyon Lake and also the first rapid above the lake.

Now I'm wondering since Tom removed his post.Ron Mc wrote:this forum is closing permanently in 10 days.

Thanks, that would be excellent news.SWFinatic wrote:Now I'm wondering since Tom removed his post.Ron Mc wrote:this forum is closing permanently in 10 days.
What we post on TKF is great - using TKF to link together on the water is the primary purpose of this site.
Swapping FFR pm's with a different Tom, php-board weenie and owner of that forum, he said it should be possible to keep TKF running on a virtual server for $20/mo.

Rebecca creek ramp is pretty far off the main lake. Is the fishing on that section of river worth the extra time and miles to get to?
I'm coming from Stone Oak area so the south side of the main lake is the closest to me. Based on the map I was thinking the Tom's creek arm around ramp 5 and 6. Lots of timber in that area.

Everything about that area makes it more desirable than down by the dam.
What do you expect to find on the big lake except 140' water, power boats, wind and waves. Though you might find stripers launching at the parks near the dam.
There's basically no other access between Crane's Mill Park and Rebecca's Creek, and launching a power boat at Crane's Mill we always fished up the river arm.
There is current flow at 160 cfs, which means you'd have to be careful.
Upriver from there is some of the best fishing in Texas.

there's also Potter's Creek Park, which has some nice coves, and JBSA.

Potters creek and Cranes Mill are good launch spots. We go down there all the time.
