Went to the forest this weekend at upper Lake Conroe. Have to say, one of my favorite trips in a while. Caught my personal best large mouth bass Saturday evening. Probably was 7lbs at least! A fat, stocky football of a bass! Revived her and watched her swim away. Back to camp for the night. The coyotes were out howling and yapping for a while after dark. The hoot owls also. Then the hunting dogs were chasing hogs til late. Can't say it was a quite night until late! Lol It was peaceful though.
Hot coffee and a pastry Sunday morning and headed back to where I caught that bass. Wasn't there 10 minutes and saw a bald eagle land in the tree beside me. Was talking with another kayaker that paddled up about it and the crappie he caught and mid sentence, thump, hooked another big bass right in front of him. This one probably 5.5lbs. Sweet! Caught one more around 3lbs and that was it the rest of the morning. Caught those on a drop off from about 4' dropping to about 18' of water. Bounced a black lizard with a chartreuse tail down the drop off and got the hits around 12' it seemed.

Few more pictures. By the way, got home in time to watch the game with a friend and eat some bbq. By the time half time ended I went home and was in bed! I was wooped! lol

Enjoyed your Lake Conroe report & photos. Isn't it fun to catch lunkers in front of an audience? Ha ha.
My group hit Confederate Reef on West Bay yesterday and had a mixed bag, including a Flounder limit for one and a skunk for me. I blame that insanely clear baywater we encountered for my lack of bites.
This winter fishing for me has been "feast or famine." Can't wait until Spring arrives and that water temp hits the magic 70° mark. Onward, men!

That water right there is exactly why I went fresh water fishing! Glad I did. And yeah, it was pretty cool catching that big lunker in front of that guy. I told him he needed to stick around longer cause I caught the smaller 3lbr in front of him also. lolDandydon wrote:Enjoyed your Lake Conroe report & photos. Nice report, and great fish. Congratulations on your new PB bass.
Can't wait for it to warm up a little more so I can convince the wife to start camping again.
