Boat Launch - Orange, TX

Post by Piscator »

Is there a public boat launch in SE Orange? Looking for the shortest run to Black Bayou.

It's a long run from anywhere you launch. I would say Cow Bayou at Roundbunch is the closest. Maybe 4 or 5 miles

I wondered if the one by Peggy's was public. Did not see much in the way of parking. So there or 87. Going to be a long run to the refuge.

Launched at 73 and I saw Peggy's on the way back. No vehicles were there so I may check with them. Cuts off about a mile. 35 minute run to the refuge in my skiff with a 20hp. I got a one-day license to check it out. I think it will be worth the $90. Need the let the water warm up more and the water a little more clear. Caught or hung 4 reds , 2 bass, and pushed a bunch I did not see. Should be a great sight casting area, thousands of acres.

Will need passengers occasionally to stand on the bow to balance the boat while I'm poling.

Definitely worth the $90. The refuge is an awesome place, especially for sight casting. Sucks though its closed Oct 15-March 15 or something like that.

I will stand on the bow for you if 195 lbs ( tackle incl) will do the job :)

Yea it is a pretty good poke launching from Orange, I went the day it opened on the south end and launched from Johnson's Bayou and it was not a bad run at all.... didnt catch anything, water was really dirty but pushed several fish. I am ready to do some exploring in there though
