I'm back in the swamp next week.
I guess we need to have a "swap-master" who will coordinate and organize the thing. And set up rules as to what kinds of flies, etc. I'll post up a new thread with my first crack at all that, unless somebody with more experience wants to (hint hint) being as I've never even participated in a swap.
Should we restrict it to gulf coast flies for reds, trout, etc? Or include bass, panfish, trouts, etc?

If you like I will take the lead. I have done quite a few of these. They are fun to do and you meet a lot of good people. I still swap flies and fish with some of the people from my first swap.

Not enough time to fish so I sat at the vice for a few. I have been trying to come up with a topwater pattern that rides hook point up, trying to keep it weedless. Finally gave it a shot. Excuse the exceptional butt-ugly...ness

Nice baitfish Puck!
Here's a tarpon sized gurgler I tied for my trip to the jetties next week. Gonna wrap a few more in different colors to mimic shrimp and baitfish. Never hooked a tarpon on top.

Nice tie. Let's us know what happens to that tie and his brethren. I've had the distinct dishonor of never getting an eat from a salt water fish on a Topwater fly. Go ahead and laugh, ridicule is underated, I exist for your amusement. No, good luck. Catch a tarpon.

Fed this almost exact fly to a spec that was floating high in the water column sipping minnows in a light two nights ago. 3 strips later i retrieved my fly from the inside her mouth.

Only difference I do is use a homemade ep brush for the leg parts or alpaca.

Nice ties Texjbq85! The troots will eat 'em up!
I'm sitting in my camper now in Port Isabel, finishing coffee and planning to wander into the wind and rain to look for tarpon. Yesterday I saw none, but did see tons of dolphins, turtles, pelicans, red knots, and egrets. Not too shabby for a winter day.

No opportunity to deploy the gurgler, but I did blind cast with a deceiver just to get the kinks out. 2016 will be a year dedicated to more time on the jetties, throwing flies.

I thought the tarpon left when the water got colder. I don't go for them but thought my buds said that Oct or Nov was pretty much it at the Port A jetties?????

I like the really low tides on the flats in late Jan early Feb. Will be back to AP then.

Hope you get something to stretch those lines. Post the pics.

That's the one. No fish other than mullet, bait, and some sheepheads. But it was a nice trip. Nice glass minnow ties!
Here's the final ties of 2015, fresh from "The Snotty Mermaid Fly Shop" aka Cuervo's tying room.

I've been trying to organize my hooks and fly thing stuff better so spent some time the last few days doing that.

But I did have time to experiment with some size 16 jig hooks tying a little cdc pheasant tail nymph with a tungsten head. I've got Trout on the mind after fishing the guad last weekend. I like the one on the right better (used one feather for the collar rather than two like I did on the left).

We usually go to South Padre during the winter months but did not get to this year. Still tied some redfish flies just in case we do get to go!!! The photos of the jetties and the fly rods really make me want to be there!!!!!

Those shrimp and spoons are awesome. Do you have a recipe for those that you could PM me? I need to learn to tie my own spoons, those things are expensive.

Great ties all! Salty bum has prodded, probed, nudged, and shoved me to the point where I'm finally calling it fly swap time. New thread has details.
