Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
So the wife and I are getting new yaks!!!
We have paddled both the trident 13 and tarpon 140. We liked both. The tident had the rod pod and will take a while to get use to.
So
Tarpon 140 vs Trident 13
Any thoughts about them both? Cost isnt a issue.

Re: Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
I only paddled a tarpon 140 once during axk demo days and I liked it a lot. I just recently got a trident 15 with the rod pod and I love it! When I was looking around I originally wanted a tarpon, but I came across a deal on the trident that I couldn't pass up. Now I don't know what I would do without the mod pod!

I paddled both at a demo last year. I really like the seat on the tarpon and the way it paddled. The trident seemed to be a little "firmer" side to side and the rod pod seem pretty neat. I never could make up my mind which I liked better so I'm not really any help to ya lol.

I've owned 2 tridents. The 11 & 13. The rod pods are nice but I didn't use them. I see they can be beneficial for going BTB. They are suitable for sitting side saddle.

Re: Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
I have paddled both and liked both. The Tarpon will win the race if distance is an issue for you. The trident 15 is pretty fast though and more stable for some BTB action if you want in on that. I had both but still have my Trident 15. Lot more utility and comfort and not much slower.

Seen many a person in a T140 as their first introduction to kayaks, peeps get used to it, and appreciate the speed as the day progresses...Tarpon all the way...G5moreminutes wrote:I was in a T-140 recently and i didn't feel very stable.

More like Chevy vs Ford. Both make excellent kayaks. Might come down to the best deal.
Get a rudder, thank me later.

I've owned two Prowler 13's, but they were older models and now have a WS 120. I prefer the WS because of the flat floor, no molded in foot pegs. The new Prowlers may have a flat floor now like the WS, I don't know, but still prefer the WS for the room.

Re: Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
Im pretty much sold on the tarpon but me being a OK guy its hard to pull away from "my brand". Looking to upgrade my scrambler. It works for BTB but man its slow and noisy on some chop
Re: Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
Have owned Trident before which was a nice kayak. Also Hobie and now on a board but when FTU put their demo yaks on sale and had the Tarpon 140 for sale I decided I would jump on it untested. I looked it over and it was in great shape and I figured $570 for a slightly used 2014 T140 was a good deal to get a good kayak without breaking the bank. Like most of the yaks I have owned I just get used to I think whatever way you go you will be happy. Its about being on the water
Re: Ocean kayak vs Wilderness systems
I paddled both along with the prowler 13 at a recent demo day and liked the P13 the best, but I did find the tarpon to be a bit faster. I feel like the T140 had a better fit and finish than the trident and I got some flex in the foot braces from the trident. Also I liked the feel of the open cockpits of the prowler and tarpon.
The phase three airpro seat on the Tarpon is the most comfortable seat i've sat in. (though I haven't been in a lawn chair seat)
