WARNING - To those that put in under 146 bridge

Post by vampiro »

There is a trio working out there to steal your stuff. All there are light skinned (anglo or hispanic) males operating out of 2 trucks. They start unloading their kayaks as one approaches you and engages you in a conversation about kayaks and fishing with a bunch of noob questions. While your busy talking the others are busy pulling out your gear, paddles or whatever then can get quick then they take off.

They got me a few days ago around sunset as i was loading everything in the truck. Put my paddle in the back turn around and a guy comes up with questions on how you fish out of a kayak.... Afer answering him he jumps in his yak (an old beat up tan NuCanoe) and paddles off into the bayou.

The only got my paddle, an experienced Warner Kaliste - really ticks me off.

Be watchful out there and dont let the scum get you.

Are you saying two guys ran off in the truck with your stuff while the other one paddled away in his own kayak while leaving his truck?

Thanks for the warning and sorry they got you. Should be a felony messing with someone trying to fish!

I used to put in there all the time back when I had a PB. Seems things go in phases. For a while, every time I went I'd see a sheriff's vehicle or game warden there, cruising the area. Then for a long time nothing, then back again. Guess they'd get some complaints and start doing drive-thru's to limit the problem. My brother insisted that he'd rather pay a launch fee and park in a safer area, but back then I had a ratty old truck and didn't worry too much about it. I guess you take your chances at a free launch. At least they didn't smash your window while you were out.

Why didn't you wait on him to come back if he paddled off into the bayou, did you get the plate # a vehicle description(make/ Color .)....word of mouth travels fast but your description is not enough for me. (im light) I pass through all the time maybe with more info we can catch them little bastards..... p.s if I catch'em I'll give your paddle back...

the 2 guys took the trucks both of them, as the 3rd guy paddled off in his kayak down stream, kept an eye on him til i lost him in the dark.

And no I didn,t get the Lic.#s - they were already exiting the parking area when i noticed my paddle had been taken. It had to be them cause noone else was there at the time.

Let the air out of his tires, or set his truck on fire!

I must say, these boneheads are playing w fire stealing from sportsman...pretty dumb move that just may get them hurt or worse. Sorry about your paddle. But, then again, could have ended worse for you too. Appreciate the heads up. It's just these situations that make me unfriendly when solo at launch spots. And, I make it abundantly clear I'm not friendly w my bling ;)
