Decoy Weights

Post by paddling john »

I made my first weight for my decoy spread. Since I hunt in fairly open water and like to leave the decoys out over night without drifting off, my first weight is 3.25 inches in diameter, .5 thick and weighs 1.5 lbs. Am I in over kill area? Do you think a 16oz. is heavy enough.
Thanks, John

8 Oz is considered "Jumbo". Nevertheless, make sure your weights are easily stowable so that you can apply them just before hunt time (in the dark before dawn). With some weights, this means you must have a "Snap Swivel" tied to the end of your decoy line. The soft lead weights offer you the option of wrapping the weight about your decoy. In all cases, these options help you avoid having to disentangle 36+ decoys in the dark - while you are being munched on by mosquitos.
