Re: Choke Canyon
Ive been there 3 times. 2 bank fishing times and once in a pb. I havent seen any gators. But they wernt active due to the cold from what I hear. the kats tourny is coming up at the end of the month. I want to put in this weekend a little hesitant to put in bymyself being a chicken i guess. and gators like chicken . I know they wont really mess with you but if i see a big 14ft are something its gonna scare the crap out of me im sure.
Re: Choke Canyon

Re: Choke Canyon
Just don't do a lot of splashing and get their attention. Nice smooth paddle strokes and you should be alright!
I would be more worried fishing off the bank in the park. There are some big ones that hang around there and are not afraid of humans. They are probably fed regularly from eating stringers of fish left along the shoreline.
I wouldn't let any small kids near the shore or pets. Never heard of any problems, but it only takes one time!

Re: Choke Canyon
I was a little shocked to find that there are gators in Canyon Lake in the hill country above San Antonio. They are found in just about every body of water and river in Texas from what I've read and seen. Some places are more populated than others but they are there.on a mission wrote:Really.gators How far north do they go in river systems? The 4-5ft gar jolt me enough ,i imagine i will skip a few heartbeats when i paddle up on one.
Re: Choke Canyon
I've heard they've been spotted all the way up to the Dallas area...
I know they're in the Colorado river in the Austin area...
God bless,

Re: Choke Canyon
Ive never seen them or heard about them above canyon lake. Ive heard dunlap has some lil ones.
Now choke canyon has some real dinasours from what I here they are native to those river systems before the lake was built.
When i went bank fishing it was at 99 bridge there was big crowds of people catching fish and alot of stringer's. it reminds me of trailrace in the winter time during trout release.
So any of you guys fish choke regular?

Re: Choke Canyon
Pretty much if there is a creek or river that feeds a known gator habitat, expect something upstream as well. I don't think there is a single wet spot in Texas that couldn't support them. Not saying they are there, but they could be.
Nature does some unexpected things. Heck, they have caught bullsharks in the Mississippi all the way up in Illinois. Think about when you're out at night catfishing.
