Doves & Teal ought to be scattered all over the place

Post by fryemup »

Had enough rain to satisfy you duck hunters?
Anyone know how far south these hard rains went?

I am planning on South Zone opener (doves) at Choke Canyon, but if they got a lot of rain down there... Won't be a lot of action.

I assume you teal hunters may have the same problem? (I have no clue, never been teal hunting)

Doves should be back to normal by the South opener on 9/20. If you are relying on a water tank to draw them, this rain probably didn't make that much difference....its been a very, very wet year from Austin all the way down to Kingsville.

The rain like we've been getting tends to scatter the birds more out in the plains than the marsh. Rather than a few puddles and ponds for the birds to choose from in the plains, they have pretty much any water they want/need.
In the marsh, there is usually all that water there anyway, so its not as bad.
I'll be taking the yak, the dog, and some decoys out as soon as the thunderstorms stop.
Hunting and lightning go about as well together as hunting and drinking.
