Hello, TKF folks- as stated in the title, I truly am brand new to the wonderful world of kayak fishing and I'm a little more than eager to get out there. Simply put, if we weren't looking at lows in the 30's tonight, I would be going in the morning.
Just picked up a nice little used Ascend FS12T, and started thinking of the next accessories I should be looking at getting so this forum is an awesome resource for valuable information! The only problem I am having is trying to find a place to go! I am off 45S and the beltway in Houston, so I'm confident there are several spots I can go- I'm just clueless as to where they are. (If there's a post where someone else has asked this same question, I'd appreciate the link to get there).
Thank you for the wealth of information you continue to provide and if anyone is up for a trip with a rookie, here you go!

Re: BRAND NEW HERE- where do I fish??
First, welcome to the addiction! Your next stop should be Academy or FTU. Get the Hook n Line map for Galveston west bay. While you are there check the waders and boots. The boots should be 2 size bigger. For example I wear 12" shoes, so the wade boots should be 14" so your toes are not restricted of blood flow.
About places to go you can check coachmills map, the ack website, or mine that list a couple.
The closest to saltwater you have is clear lake.
NASA rd 1 boat ramp to fish mud lake
Clear lake shores to kemah channel to the mouth to clear lake
Hwy 146 bridge to fish kemah channel or kemah flats.
Todville rd/10th st to fish seabrook flats . There is seabrook lagoon there as well.
I personally like Galveston better, but if gas money and time is important that is the close places you have.
Good luck with the catching!

Re: BRAND NEW HERE- where do I fish??
Already great feedback- thanks mpg2yahoo! I will take a look at the referenced maps, and although gas and time are not a concern, it's probably a good idea that I hit some local spots at least for the first few runs. But after that I am definitely looking it expand my horizons. I do some camping mainly at a few state parks towards the Austin area and always wanted to have a kayak to get to those "there's gotta be fish in there" areas.
Thank you again!
Thank you again!

Find water and start fishing that is some of the best advice. If you get a chance try to go with a group of older or more experienced salts on here that dont mind the company. Be respectful of those teaching you the ropes and of the areas they may show you. Dont potlick

Thanks for the link, livetofish. Looks like a plethora of places nearby!
Finaddict, GREAT suggestion as I'd forgotten about Ike.
Coastie- pm'ing you, buddy.
SAHunter- totally agreed on the respect to the wise, as well as going out with the experienced. Definitely looking for more kayak buddies. Not many at the office that are into fishing, much less kayaking. Sad....
