Temporary bachelor

Post by Fish soup »

The wife and kids will be away for a few days visiting Grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins.... Usually, at family get-togethers, I man the grill and beverage wagon for the whole family. It keeps me outside and out of the gossip zone but Im sitting out this little family gathering. My dear wife is MAKING me sit it it out; she insists that I have not had enough fishing time. Seriously. I have two full days to fish...Monday and Tuesday! No half days, no coming in early or working around kids activities. Yipee!
Two full days of fried food, fizzy drinks and fishing. Can't wait.
My intel tells my the surf probably will not be good for BTB here (Corpus) but what about the upper coast? Anyone doing anything on Monday or Tuesday? Don't mind a little drive and would love to get some BTB in if conditions allow.

Whats up! Glad you have some time to fish. Me and another guy will be fishing near galveston. Maybe the bay if we can't make it offshore due to the conditions. Call me now if you get this. I'm sitting at work. 832-858-622six.

Fish soup, you might as well tag along with the wife and kids. I checked conditions up here Mcfaddin and Galveston and they are not the best of conditions for BTB. I wouldn't want to go out with 15 mile an hour winds and 3 to 4 foot seas. Other wise I would have called in sick for a little R and R.

I am learning quickly that the wife and kids and the weather are the "X-factors" that play a huge role in the fishing frequency of the responsible kayak fisherman. I was at Bolivar yesterday and it was pretty rough, too rough for me. But as a fellow "Red Raider" I would hate to be a nay sayer on your 48hrs of freedom. You could always pick a spot that has surf on one side and bay on the other that way if one the surf was too big you could still put in on the bay side. Well good luck, wish I had an extra two days to join in, I could use some child free fishing myself. One thing about the kids though is my boy is really starting to like the yak up close in the shallows. Ready for him to get big enough to tag along in his own boat.

Update: Since the surf was not cooperating, I decided to rain-check my 48 hour pass and man the family grill.....again.
I am now in the middle of about six zillion in-laws. Is fun...except when a certain brother in-law decides to show up on my turf( the back yard). He's like Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Rodgers. You never know which one its going to be.
Anyway, thanks for the offer Yaktastic. Next time maybe!

Glad to hear you're taking a rain check. I launched at the Galveston causeway this morning, it was a lil rougher than I was comfortable with due to the wind. Casted at a few reds that were tailing out the water and had 0 bites on piggies.
