RISE Adventures Kick Off Summer Bash, VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Post by JFBedford »

Hey DFW gang, 10 days away from the KOSB!

Here is the location & event info:

Many of you have helped with this event before & we need your help again. Just a little background info, the DFW kayakers have been helping out with these events for 4 years now. The first time we showed up with our plastic navy & volunteers there were 3 kayaks, 3 pfds & 3 paddles sitting on the shore. We kinda had a good laugh as our volunteers started rolling in with their personal kayaks, some of our favorite vendors rolled in with the their yaks (HOT Kayaks, Mariner Sails, Mountain Sports just to name a few). We've usually put between 30- 40 kayaks on the ground and had between 15- 30 volunteers ready, willing, & able to help everyone from young kids to senior citizens with varying physical disabilities enjoy kayaking. Many of them are first timers but there are quite a few mixed in that have either kayaked with us before or that attended RISE's weekly programs. At times we have to improvise in order address someone's specific need but we've NEVER turned an interested kayaker away at these events. It is hard work at times and sometimes we have people waiting in line for their shot at something that they might have been convinced that they could never do or do again.

Here's what we need:

Bring your stable kayaks, might want to remove some of the fishing rigging that could get in the way. TANDEM kayaks are a big plus!
Paddles
Bring your own PFD, we will have plenty of PFD's for the participants to use
There will be burgers & hotdogs, water, drinks etc. available but if you want to bring your own cooler feel free
VOLUNTEERS!

Here's when:

We need everyone to arrive & unload around 8am, the event starts at 9am & ALL VEHICLES HAVE TO BE OUT OF THE AREA due to the heavy wheelchair traffic.

Here's a link of some past photos & information: http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/foru ... ADVENTURES" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Please post in this thread if you will be able to make it & help out. I PROMISE you will not regret it at the end of the day, it's a great way to help out the community.

Thanks!
