Proper kayak storage
Proper kayak storage
Got me a new Perception Sport Pescador 10' on friday. My question is the best way to store it. Can I just sit it flat on the concrete floor of my garage?

I wouldn't store it flat. I made an incline platform and use slings aka straps to store my Tarpon on its side but not touching the ground. If you store yours flat you're taking a chance of warpping it. If nothing else get a pulley system set up in your garage using wide straps. Just my $0.02

What if I set it on saw horses flat? I guess I just don't understand why it has to be on its side?Old Skool Hookers wrote:I wouldn't store it flat. With the exception of bigger boats like the Hobie PA's, most kayak manufacturers recommend storing your yaks either on their side or upside down to prevent hull warpage or other damage. If you're gonna put it on sawhorses, pad the crossbars and set it upside down.

X2 on if you're going to use saw horses. (Pads and upside down)

Can I lean it up against my garage wall on the floor and on its side?

I did that with my ride 115 for years, but its hard as a rock. You might do that with some yak foam blocks to soften the pressure maybe?flyboy718 wrote:Can I lean it up against my garage wall on the floor and on its side?
In the picture you can see the frenzy with straps hanging from some bike hooks. Quite inexpensive($2-$3 per hook and the strap might be $15-$20). Just be careful if ur yak is heavy. That is why I kept the ride on the floor against the wall.
Re: Proper kayak storage
Just go buy a folding card table, turn it upside down and lay your kayak inbetween the table legs......
