What kind of yak is it? You should be fine. I started off with an 11 footer and it served me well. It probably won't be very fast or track well, but if you aren't paddling super far, then you should be good to go.

will it work? yes... will you be happy with it? let me say it this way I started in the bay with a malibu mini-x and it was >10 ft and it was tough to paddle for sure. I would recommend 13" or longer if most of your fishing will be in the bay.

10ft is long enough. The only time I like having a longer kayak is crossing open water.

Like everyone said it will work but depends on the circumstances. If you have access to a 10' or found a good deal on one it would depend on how good of a deal because like others have stated you are probably better off with a 12' kayak since you will have less trouble tracking and will probably have better stability.

I have a 10' Pelican SINK and was wondering the same thing... I have gone out close to shore (TCDike) but never out into the bay... Thanks for asking for me BCorn!

I the performance really depends on the load much more with that short of a yak. JMOP
