Kayak Tournament benefitting HOW - August 4th - Portland, TX
Kayak Tournament benefitting HOW - August 4th - Portland, TX
UPDATE 7/24/12 - Registration is now open at the Yak Shack in Portland or South Texas Tackle in San Antonio.
The San Antonio group (TKFSA) is hosting a Saltwater Kayak Fishing Tournament on August 4th, 2012. This tournament is open to all kayak fishermen/women from any area and half of the entry fees are going to be donated to Heros On the Water. The weigh-in will be hosted by the Yak Shack in Portland, TX. Entry is $20 per angler and there are three divisions.
1 - Heaviest Redfish (Slot fish only. No Redfish over 28" will be allowed.)
2 - Heaviest Speckled Trout
3 - Heaviest Stringer consisting of one Red, one Trout, and one Flounder. (You do not need all three to enter this division. Again, no Redfish over 28" will be allowed.)
We will have cash awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in each division. We want to allow as many entrants as possible a chance at prizes, so each angler may only enter one division. He/She may decide at weigh-in which division they would like to enter. In other words, go fish and see what you catch, then decide which division you can best compete in. We want this to be a safe and fun event for anglers of every skill level.
We already have a few door prizes and are working on more. Door prizes will be given by random drawing after weigh-in is completed.
Check-in/Registration/Captain's meetings will be held at three times. Thursday night, August 2nd, at South Texas Tackle, 12151 Jones Maltsburger #119, San Antonio. Right across the street from Blossom Athletic Center, from 5PM until 8PM. Friday night, August 3rd, at the Yak Shack, 101 Hwy 181, Portland, TX from 6PM until 9PM, and on the morning of the tournament at the Yak Shack from 4AM until 7AM. If none of these times/places are convenient for you, please email me at dcrawford@email.com and we will work out a way for you to register. South Texas Tackle is offering a 10% discount on all items on Thursday during registration, just like he does during our meetings. The Yak Shack is offering a 10% discount on accesories during registration. Joe told me they have a lot of new items, so y'all be sure to stop in.
Half of your entry will be donated to HOW, as stated above, and all of the other half is going to prizes. We will split the prize money into three equal pots, one for each division. Then the pots will be divided into 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place money. 1st will receive 55%, 2nd will get 30%, and 3rd will be given 15%.
Here are the rules:
TKFSA Tournament Rules for August 4th, 2012

Charity tournament. I am in.
Let me know what I can do to help as well.
We could make this the third leg of the Coastal Bend Charity Tournament Trail. Fits right in with Yak Attack and Casting For A Cause!

I would love to but that is the same day as the Kid Katch there in Portland. I take my girls every year so that is the plan for me.

If you would like to have a raffle in addition to the door prizes I would gladly donate an item of value. I have a few framed prints or new/unused rod & reels lying around.

Been following this on TKFSA and these guys have really reached out to those that might be fishing in the tourney and got their ideas etc. I think it will be a great time with fun for all. I am hoping to make it.
