Lake Ray Roberts

Post by texin1 »

I have never fished Lake Ray Roberts but would like to make a trip as soon as possible. I would appreciate any tips for hot spots an best place(s) to launch. I am looking for largemouths.

I use 4 launches at Ray Bob depending on wind (usually).

I am normally chasing crappie though.

I really like the Isle Du Bois area to fish if it is a south wind. You are protected by the dam, and they have about 5 big brush piles that are easy enough to access. There is a also a sandy creek near this park, and that is golden to crappie fisherman.

The launch site where the elm fork flows into the river is very small. Carrying to the launch is required. If the lake is full, then the elm fork channel is pretty good all the way up to the rock. That is about a mile above the bridge (922).

Where 377 crosses the lake, there is a boat launch. This always looked fishy, but I haven't done that good there. I have fished both the 377 bridge and the railroad bridge, and I have fished the standing timber back to the east.

My favorite launch spot, for reasons that I won't be naming, is just off 35 on Lois road. You turn at the big porn store (KT's, I think). The gate will be closed except during duck season, but you can still hike through it. It is a long trek with a kayak.

Sounds like great tips, and I really appreciate the tips. I was beginning to wonder if anyone makes the trek up to RR. I fish Lake Worth a lot, and during this time of year I go into the Ft. Worth Nature center a lot to fish Crappie and Sandy's. I don't get a hold of many big largemouths the lakes close by so I decided to try and fish RR this year.

We made the trip. It was real windy. Fishing was tough. Out of the 7 of us there were 2 bass caught.

Yea it was a pretty tough day to say the least. I got two bites and missed both in about 5 hrs of fishing. The water was pretty stained. I wish the wind wasn't blowing so that we could have hit the main body of water.

All this rain, while a great thing, isn't going to help the water clarity anywhere in the state.

Time to get out to Ray Roberts again? This rain is going to turn the world on in my opinion. I need to get the Diablo wet, and anyone who wants to give it a spin is welcome to take a ride on it as well.
I did pretty good way up north last week, and in my opinion that's the healthiest water on the lake --- looks a lot like Fork subsurface, and has a lot of nutrients coming in there.
I fished off (literally off, wade fishing on islands the bridge goes over) the eastern-most 922 bridge, and before that was wading the Buck Creek access past the trestle.
Crazy healthy habitat all around, but wished I was kayaking instead of walking.
