Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
Clint caught this 8.5lb trout right after the front passed at 11am on a pink skitterwalk in 3' of water to win big trout in the Galveston trophy trout series...I think it's the biggest trout of the year for the series...Congrats Clint
Re: Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
We ended up with 13.8lbs....just couldn't get that 3rd fish...we grinded and I ended up catching a TINY keeper at 2:15pm. 1st place was 16lbs....all we needed was one more keeper and we might have won this tourney...all 3 fish swam away strong during the release
Re: Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
Congrats Clint Vincent were you guys fishing against the pb'rs? That would have been sweet to win against those guys if so. How long was she?
Re: Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
You guys are top of the class. Congratulations Bog Dog.
Re: Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
Yeah...we were the only kayaks fishing in this tourney...the fish went 28.9". We had just pulled up onto a flat to fish and about 5 casts later Clint catches this fish. Being 2+mi. from the trucks, we decided to leave immediately and slowly pull this fish back, it was worth 850.00 and a new Waterloo rod so we decided not to take any chances and didn't want to kill the fish. When we got back near the truck, I tried to get our 3rd fish...caught a 8" blue crab, 2 slot reds, a 20" flounder and four 14" trout before I got our last 16" trout...by then it was 2:15pm and we had to load 3 yaks and get the cooler ready for our live fish in the rain...
I learn something new at every tournament we compete. Thinking back on all the missed blowups and pulled fish earlier in the day and what might have been....when time is running down....you tend to over fish...you have to just slow down and make every cast count....I was hesitant to change baits, I didn't think I had time to change tactics...but decided to switch from a morning glory to a chicken on a chain soft plastic and from a 1/16oz weedless jig to a 1/4oz standard jig to get down and stay down.. because after the rain the water started to clear up...I sat in an area for over an hour without a hit...moved up just about 20 yds and cast at a different angle...the current was moving much faster on the other side of the structure I was fishing...and in the last 30min I got bit on almost every cast

Great Job guys. Saw that on FB a while ago.
That last paragraph was a good one V. Great advice, for me the hardest discipline on tourney day is knowing when to move or when to grind it out at one spot...as the day goes on it's like each second ticks louder than the last one...vincent wrote:...when time is running down....you tend to over fish...you have to just slow down and make every cast count...

Congrats guys and a real nice fish Clint
Vincent, those decisions are always tough, but you were on the water and you both did very well .
Oh and although I'm a Wildy fan , the Ocean Kayak team represents ALL kayakers in a positive and competitive manner, thanks guys!
Happy Fishin'

Woah yeah Bogdog! Nice fish and way to do it on tournament day! Awesome catch and congrats! Sweet fish!
Re: Team Ocean Kayak pic of the Day Galveston Tropy Trout Series
Awesome fish Clint. Glad I got to witness it in person. I don't think I've ever seen you shake so much. This is what winter fishing is all about. Grinding in tough conditions for one big bite.
