would ya mind sharing that email from COE with us. I just got an email from Herring with COE stating just the opposite and that the warning/advisory was still in effect until the next testing.Rev TCF wrote:Yep, got an email from the COE today stating the same thing!!!
Here is an article about yesterdays disagreements between the county/retailers association and USACOE. http://www.herald-democrat.com/sections ... rence.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Herring is with COE and Bynum represents retailers association but is a sitting judge. He said come on down water is fine and COE said " not by our tests! ".
here is a partial quote:
“It is as safe (to use the lake) now as it has ever been,” Bynum said.
Herring ( USACOE ) seemed to disagree.
“(We) want to mention that based on our most recent test data from Jan. 11, the cell counts exceed the World Health Organization’s advisory threshold and primary body water contact is still discouraged. Based on the adverse health effects that BGA can cause to both humans and pets, we have an obligation to educate the public of the risks so they can make an informed decision for themselves and their families. Until test data is received that shows that the levels have dropped below the WHO standards, the advisory will remain in effect. The next round of sampling will take place within the next few weeks.”

I talked with state park officers today at Eisenhower and they were having a conference call to gain more information.
According to them the CDC is now involved and has said it is not as dire as first thought.
It will be interesting to see what comes out next.

Phill,
I'm trying to find it. I got it on my phone and may have deleted it.

I suspect in any organization like the corps, there is a modicum of left/hand right hand syndrome. Heck I get confused and I am just a one man shop.
I'm still fishing Texoma regularly but will do what I have been doing, rinsing all my catch of before handling it for cleaning. In fact it is so little bother I do it wherever I fish. I have always rinsed my crappie to remove the slime for handling, but now I'll just do everything from any lake. Can't hurt anything, and is not a inconvenience really.
It sounds a bit like the cigarette companies of the 1970's still screaming there is no definitive risk or link between smoking and cancer. Just keep spinning the story any way you can when there is money at stake. Just bewildered me that a local judge would get involved and even then hire a PR firm to put the statement out. Why would you need to hire a third party to say something if it is just the simple truth. The PR firm ( advertising agency) went out of their way to find health organizations not involved with the advisory, not testing the lake, to quote when they have a very credible agency already testing and giving updates. They are by their actions saying the corps information is wrong or that the corps is intentionally misinforming us. I'll trust the corps long before advertising agencies, politicians and advertising agencies.
I called the CDC in Atlanta after I read the press release, and they said quite simply they don't test or monitor if a viable/acceptable testing and monitoring program in in place by a valid governmental agency.

24* at the casa this morning and wind chill in the single digits. Should help fully drive this algae out along with the influx of water from the watershed over the last couple weeks. Forecast low tonight is high teens/low 20's.
Water in the backs of the creeks was gin clear last week. Flooded willows and grass that had not seen water in more than a year should make for a great spring.
