Re: MOTHER LOAD #2 GORDA RIG
The Spanish Makeral were thick around the rig. There was alot of bait that they were chasing. We were catching a fish on nearly every cast in the morning on lures, jigs, and spoons. In the afternoon I switched to ribbonfish drifted under a cork. The bite picked right back up. The bait would only be in the water for a minute or two before the next strike. I caught the king on a ribbonfish. I had to unhook from my anchor because it made such a strong run it went 2/3 of the way through my spool in about 20 seconds. I thought I had a big shark at first. We both ended with double digits in fish. It was a fun day.

Way to go guys!
As much as I want to catch them I'm not a big fan of the mackeral meat I've eaten- how do you prep/cook it?

Spanish is very good fresh. Either fried, grilled or make a ceveche.sheriff_john wrote:Way to go guys!

Kings that big are marginal at best for table fare. I just CPR 'em and thank 'em for playing!
Now landing them with out a gaff is tough. You gotta wear 'em out then tail 'em. Hold on tight!

Re: MOTHER LOAD #2 GORDA RIG
Those smaks are HUGE!!! BTW - did you guys weigh that king? might should have had it weighed in for the CCA STAR Tourney. Hard to tell how heavy it was, but it had some really nice girth! Great job! What type of baitfish were they chasing? Hope to see u at the tourney on the 30th!

Re: MOTHER LOAD #2 GORDA RIG
I was thinking the same thing, it looks bigger than my 52# king that I caught several years ago off the party boats.castnblast wrote:Those smaks are HUGE!!! BTW - did you guys weigh that king? might should have had it weighed in for the CCA STAR Tourney.
Re: MOTHER LOAD #2 GORDA RIG
I did not weigh it. I did measure it and it was 54.5 inches long.FlounderGuru84 wrote: Nice king Patrick! Did you get a chance to weigh it?
I did not enter the Star Tournament this year for the first time in awhile so I will probably catch lots of huge fish this summer and some tagged reds. I plan on coming to your tournament as long as the conditions are good.castnblast wrote:Those smaks are HUGE!!!
