BBW River Ranger 12
Well thanks to Darrell (DarrellS) & Ron (bowgarguide) I am building my first kayak, lol. It won't be as good as theirs but I'm going to give it a go. I've got the epoxy and fiberglass cloth on order from US Composites and I got the rest of my supplies from Harbor Freight and Lowes. I decided to go with the Brazos Boat Works "River Ranger" because it is a 3 panel "stitch and glue" design and seems like a good beginner kayak.
My epoxy and fiberglass are going to arrive Tuesday so this evening I decided to cut my forms and my decks while I'm waiting for the epoxy to arrive.
Thanks for looking....more to come

Yep, as soon as the epoxy gets here the first thing I am going to do is splice two pieces of the plywood together. Gerald just gave me some really good instructions on how to do that. Then I will will cut out my side pieces and keel, and then off to stitchin'.

If you are down around Waco over the weekend give me a call and I'll loan you some so you can keep going on the boat. 254/749-9413

Just the Luan from Lowes. 10 bucks a sheet but I think it will float.

Went ahead and cut my side pieces out last night. Now if the dang ups man would hurry up we could get this thing spliced and stitched up and looking like a boat, lol. Probably going to work on the keel tomorrow.
Here are my side pieces
Back up a little further and took the same picture Thanks for looking!

Re: BBW River Ranger 12
Drew my keel out today. I'm going to wait to cut it out until after I splice the two main solid boards together. I really can't do anything else until Tuesday now.
Kind of hard to see, sorry.
More to come....

Forms are in! That's about all I can do today. I'm starting to get pretty excited because it's taking shape... Whether she ends up floating or not is a different story.

Re: BBW River Ranger 12
looks like you did a good job cutting everything. All of the pieces fit well. Have you started thinking about your next boat yet? If not you will before long.
Re: BBW River Ranger 12
this is the neatest stage, those flat pieces of wood now become a 3 diamentional boat, EXITEING on the downside, lots to do before she hits the water (Not really) its all fun. enjoy.

My next boat will probably be the same one because my fishing buddies want one now that they see how the boat is lookingDarrellS wrote:looks like you did a good job cutting everything. All of the pieces fit well. Have you started thinking about your next boat yet? If not you will before long.

It is very exciting and yes I do have quite a bit before she floats. I think the only problem I am going to run into now is the decks. Really not sure how to do them to be honest.makenmend wrote:this is the neatest stage, those flat pieces of wood now become a 3 diamentional boat, EXITEING on the downside, lots to do before she hits the water (Not really) its all fun. enjoy.

I was out of town this weekend but I am going to start back up this evening. Going to do the fillets between all the stitches. Any suggestions on what instrument I should use to apply the fillets?

Go to a hobby store buy you some craft sticks,(Popsicle stick) they normally have two sizes and both are handy in different places.
