How many is TOO many

Post by fish1onthefly »

I got my issue of BASS Masters today and they had a section on small boats..mainly yaks with trolling motors. But WS did have an add that showed a guy holding 2 smallies....He had EIGHT rods on the boat! No way I could get a lure out in the water without hooking half of them on the way! Now I admit, I am a self professed minimalist when I am paddling but come on 8 RODS! :horse: :horse:
At most I carry 3 and most of the time just 2 rods....how many to do tote with you?

bass fisherman are unique, it's not uncommon to see them carrying 10 or more rods all rigged up differently and ready to go...each rod and reel serves a unique technique, either tops, extra heavy worming through pads and brush under water, 1 for spinners, 1 for cranks, 1 for finess and pitching...

personally, when on my yak, i carry 2, i have 1 rigged for soft plastics and the other for throwing top waters...

if on our boat, i have 2 or 3, both setups above and 1 rigged for live bait.

2 rods. And I seem to always get my lure caught on the other rod at least twice on every trip. I have to remember to keep the rod not being used on my left side because I cast with my right. I would only bring 1 rod but its nice to have a backup.

Two rods is all I take. The second rod is basically a backup rod in case the first rod breaks.

2 is all I could do. Have one that I fish with and then another ready to go with an alternate setup. Even with two I usually end up hooking the other rod about 2-3 times each trip. I have thought about putting my heavier break in two rod and reel inside my kayak though in case I ever want to soak some mullet but this rod would be stowed inside until needed. Couldn't imagine havine more than 2 rods on a kayak

Two in the salt. Four or five in fresh... I know more options when fishing fresh. Less experience in salt and only need two.

I always have 3 with me. A topwater, a spinner, and a jig are always ready to go. I have carried a fourth, but not often.

Always have 3 rods. Two in the back (trolling or standby) and 1 up front.

I grew up bass fishing and I'm used to having several rods rigged up when I'm out fishing. I see no reason to change that level of preparation and readiness just because I'm now fishing saltwater.

When bay fishing, I normally carry 3 rods.

3. One has a superspook or something similar, one has, well, something else, depending on what I'm doing, and one's just a spare/utility infielder...
