Camping/Paddle trip any interest? update w/pics
I would like to get a group together that would want to do an over night river trip. These are fairly close to Houston, and can easily be done on a weekend.
Launch site option#1 Hidalgo Falls (Navasota) the vehicles can be parked behind a locked gate, with the exception of a shuttle vehicle parked at the take out.( I will donate that)
Approx 4 miles down to the HWY 105 bridge, and several sand bars to camp on. (no portages}
Launch site option #2 Launch at the Navasota River bridge, park everthing under the Brazos River bridge (1/4 mile away) go down the Navasota river, to the Brazos, camp on any number of the sand bars, finish up with a short 2 mile paddle up river to the Brazos bridge. round trip 6.2 miles ( no portages)
Launch site #3 launch and park at the Hwy 6 bridge at the Navasota river, Navasota ,Tx. approx 7.7 miles down river to the HWY 105 Navasota river bridge. There are several portages on this trip, portage ropes and good shoes are suggested
Launch site #4 Launch at the Dam on the Trinity river, south to HWY 59 approx 11 miles. with camp areas on the way, no portages. park vehicles at the store on the east side of the dam,, ( last time he charged 2 bucks a day) and leave one shuttle vehicle at the 59 bridge, ( I will donate my beater for that)
There is not enough water in Spring Creek yet to make an enjoyable trip down to 59
Stublefield has some good areas for a short paddle and overniter.
just throwing that out there. If anyone wants to put one together,
Randy

My enthusiasm for this is complete - my availability will depend on scheduling.

Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
I can do any weekend, lets throw out some dates to see what is most compatible for the most people.
I just posted this today, so in a few more days there may be some more that are interested.
Disclaimer: this is not a guided or sanctioned trip. each person participates at there own risk. TKF or myself is not responsible for any injury or death, or loss of equipment. All safety gear will be required, Life jacket(s), Whistle, Stern light if you plan on paddling near or at dark.
With that said, each of these areas are casual paddle trips. If you are a new paddler please speak up, SEND ME A PM,,,,

Not running away and not committing. Things are hectic now and short notice. But I am watching and will join if possible when it is set up. I just can't commit until 2-3 days in advance.Randy wrote:I didn't mean to run anyone off,,,,,

Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
What does October 3rd and 4th look like?
Option # 2 Navasota River and Brazos River, plenty of parking, and a big enough sand bar down by the confluence for a large group. Round trip approx 6.2 miles, The "B" leg trip on Sunday, would be a short paddle up to the Brazos River bridge approx 2 miles.
Just throwing that out there..
Navasota River pics south of the 105 bridge.
Brazos River on left and Navasota River on right
Sand bar, Camp site !!!! north of the confluence.

Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
Sounds like a plan. BUT October starts bow season. So I'm out until either after I limit out or till after the first of the year.
But then I'll be all about it.

Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
My crystal ball says I might be off that weekend. If I am, I am in even if it is a short ride off of Niagra Falls.
Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
Things are settling out some and I know my wife has plans for the 3rd of October that do not include me! The Brazos/Navasota is closest and most convenient to me so put me as a tenative yes! Now the question is which craft do I bring.
November will open deer rifle season so I will be less available.

Re: Camping/Paddle trip any interest?
I would love to join the Yikkaty-yak crowd, however, I must attend a baby shower for fam member. Almost joined some of you guys/gals at Conroe camp out but had a conflict on that date. If I can convince hubby & kids, maybe we can attend a future campout/yak trip. I'm sure with all of this much needed rain, the river will be quite muddy red and your sand bar may have disappeared. I will lurk for your photos. Have fun.
