Re: Started the build
Measure twice cut once
Set you a seat right on the floor on that yak , that yak is a little wiggly if you set the seat up even a couple inches.
It is a sweet little boat,I have enjoyed mine.
and most of all have fun
Ron
Are you going to paint it pink to match the yak in the pic.
Had to ask

Measure twice. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. And most of all like Ron said have fun building it. I bet you become addicted like the rest of us.

Just relax. Nothing critical here. Don't hesitate to ask questions if you feel the need.

Re: Started the build
I believe that picture is of a Chesapeake Kayak. You must always remember that fast and tippy are relative terms. The Chesapeake boats are pretty good boats. This one being what I call a 4 panel it has a V bottom. That does not make it inherently tippy. Tippy is usually a matter of being skinny (the boat--not the paddler). This also depends on the shape of the main part of the hull. After a short time most people would be comfortable in this boat.dr_love2112 wrote:well actually im going to paint my wifes pink.....mine will look like this one.....

Fast--well--no boat moves at all with out a paddler, so the first part of having a "fast" boat is the paddler. Length is a major function of how fast a boat can be. Width and hull shape determines how hard it will be to achieve that speed. A skinny boat can achieve speed easier than a fat boat. You still have to paddle though...
Re: Started the build
Hi Dr. Love,
That is a Chesapeake yak, as Gerald said, from Chesapeake Light Craft. As already mentioned, tippy is a relative term. Compared to some SOT yaks it may feel unstable, but for a sea kayak, it has excellent primary stability. It is cavernous, and has plenty of room for gear. I think of it as a floating schoolbus.
There will be one at Inks Lake if you feel like driving from Florida

Re: Started the build
dr, when you asked if this kayak is fast, were you actually referring to the Laker and not the CLC in the pic?

I think he is saying his finish will look like the yak in the picture ,and then ask the question if the Laker was tippy.

It does well as long as you keep the seat low.
