Anyone every has sucess shrinking kayak

Post by GLEN »

My wife got a Cobra Explorer for Mothers Day- Behind the seat the storage is about 1/2 inch too small for a milk crate. Has anyone ever had sucess shrinking one - grinding off the edges with a angle grinder or maybe putting a heat gun to it and bending it so that it fits- or if anyone has this kayak and found something that fits tight and right lit me know.

I cut a crate up to fit inside my old Heritage Marquesa. Man I loved that yak.

I'll look for a pic to post.

On my navigator, I grinded the edges of the crate and then raised it a bit off the bottom of the kayak in order to make it fit better.

Sterlite container from walmart. Just look around and you can find something that fits.

Yes, alter the crate, not the boat.

Look at different kinds of crates. Maybe a crate like 2 liter drinks come in, or a 5 gallon bucket may fit (or a 3 gallon bucket with a similar sized footprint). I use a 5 gallon bucket and bungee it in. Drill holes in it so it will drain and rig a lid if you are concerned about water accumulation.

Another idea is to strap a coupla' pvc pipes horizontal on the bottom. Will raise it up above the edges. Did that on my Ride.

Come to think of it, I ended up fabricating a little PVC frame that allowed the Explorer to take a regular milk crate with good stability. Sold that boat to Wolfman57 so PM him and he might have a pic of it if he kept that frame.
