Hydro-Jet Canoe

Post by DelSol »

I saw this in this months TP&W magazine.
I guess it's for the lazy paddler.
$2800 for the canoe...

The noise of the B&S 4 stroke would drive me insane. Hell, if I wanted to hear that I would mow the lawn.

I've met the owner. He's the same guy that got sucked thru the Lake Austin Floodgates by the Hula Hut a couple of years ago.

Not quite somebody I'd feel comfortable buying a boat from. :?

Now, swap the Briggs for a Honda and stick the thing in a jonboat and I'd be interested.

I thought swap it for an electric motor and it might be workable. I do like the 360 degree directable thrust though.

Seems pricey. If I were to go for gimicky I would go for this...

Seems like it would be comfortable and simplistic. I can't imagine using it on anything but a pristine day with flat waters, however.

Besides the noise, canoes aren't built to go beyond hull speed. Better to put that thing on a light flat bottom hull.

Dang thing weighs 120lbs and they are claiming you can car-top it?

What makes this thing better than a 10 ft Jonboat from Academy?

Would not make much difference really, speed would be the same. You are just not going to get that much power out of a 5hp (or so) jet drive.

local hydrojet jons

Post by tishkayaker »

I have a friend that is making hydrojet jon boatswith Jetski propulsion engines he buys from damaged jetskis. They perform great but the noise level is loud just like jetskis. Outboards are quieter. Kayaks MUCH quieter and paddling better for health too! I forget time when enjoying kayak fishing and even when not catching fish the peace of being on the water in my yak makes me forget everything else.
