Malibu Pro Explorer

Post by SAyaker »

I have a Malibu Pro Explorer on the way, should be here by Tuesday. I live out by Canyon Lake and plan on getting the feel of the yak near one of the public boat ramps. If anyone from the group has any words of wisdom, lay them one me. This will be my first time on a kayak.

hi there SAyaker, here are a few suggestions.......think safety...... wear your PFD :!: ......try to have someone with you within shouting distance......check out the TKF tips section........watch out for the boaters, especially if you will be near a boat ramp.... wear a loud colored shirt/hat.......go on a short haul....wait to you get some time with the paddle before going on the long haul.....make sure you have a paddle leash, remember, no paddle....no go.......your paddle blades should be white or a brite color, if black put some 3m white electrical tape on the blades.......if a boater gets close wave your paddle........go during daylight hours with plenty of sunshine.........check the weather......your first time out you will want little or no wind and no chance of bad weather......now, have funnnnnn........send a report.....

Hello SAyaker, You might also want to practice a deep water reentry on,or into your Yak. This is the time to learn not when you have just been thrown out or rolled over. People might look at you funny but this lesson is one you need to learn. Have fun and paddle safe. Ken
