Yesterday I had some oral surgery done that I had been dreading. This morning I woke up and thought, “I can lay in bed and ache or I can go ache with the fish”. I would rather ache in nature, so off I went with a spinning rod and a fly rod. Soon after first light I found a few reds on a shoreline and began catching. The second fish was a toad and ran into the reeds, breaking off my pretty “redfish crack” so I switched to one of the homely versions in my box. It didn’t put the fish off any and I found small group after small group, not feeding aggressively but moving along quietly with tails wagging above the surface. They greeted me all along the shorelines, and I was happy to have some playmates. All ten reds were released, and seven of them were captured on the fly. It was nice to get some good buggy whip action for a change. On the way out I found a few lower slot fish on the edge of the river bank and they were hungry too.
Now I’m feeling better and ready to do this again in the morning.
Those are some great looking fish and there is no other way to get more fight out of them than fly fishing.
I have got to get out and see if I have the arm for it anymore.
Congrats and Tight Lines
