The last couple of weeks have been really good for redfish in LHL. The water clarity is better than most places, the tides were about right (moon phases too). I have been working on watching my shadows with these shallow water reds. Line, lure, rod, and human shadows I have noticed scare these fish. I think it has to do with the warranted fear from the birds above. Nonetheless, it was a blast catching these reds.
One fish I saw working across the flats for a couple of min… chasing bait while I was having a leisure break. I hopped in the kayak and paddled toward his way… put the topwater in front of him and watched as he zoomed across the grass in search of it. Awesome experience that many other fishing adventures cannot provide outside of flats fishing.

Nice stringer of fish.
Had I know Copano was still tore up from the run off I would have gone to South Bay last Saturday.

fun stuff - thanks for the report and photos
Re: AP Report.
Yes… I am hoping for Port Bay, St Charles, and Copano to clear up. With the rain, my yard looks great, but not the inland bays. A friend and neighbor fished B&R where it meets the deeper water and caught lots of small trout and keepers.Neumie wrote:Nice stringer of fish.

Good report. I kayak-fished the lagoon on the NW side of Hog Island at first light Monday. The fish were active, and I caught a 22-inch Red right away with a Super Spook topwater lure. Rest of the morning and into the afternoon, I caught about seven 18-19 inch Reds and lots of Ladyfish, on frozen shrimp. Tide started flowing out about 10 AM, and the fish were biting, just not the slots, for me. Haven't seen a trout in weeks!

This report still stands. I ran into 50 or so Redfish today around Hog Island area. I also have been seeing/catching a lot of Redfish in LHL, B&R, and Fin&Feather area. We picked up some nice trout on East Shore about 5 days ago on soft plastics. It amazes me how many big slot Redfish were on the flats lately. All caught on topwaters, gold spoons, and some light soft plastics.
Hope to get back to Port Bay and St. Charles if the water clears up some…. But why leave fish to find fish.

I have been at home working on the repairs from the floods Rockport had on July 7. They are about done so I have been able to go mid-week. I would go if I were you… the traffic will be up but I don’t think it will be too bad. People are into school and hunting right now… my favorite time of the year!!
