Re: Fishing on the Guadaupe
you're sitting in the front of a drift raft - who was your guide?
Any accolades for his skill and demeanor on the river?

We’ve fished with Reel Fly Adentures yesterday was Daniel and today was Cody. Two impressive young men. I loved the way they handled the fish- never out of the water long and made they wet your hands before handling. Etc. plus coaching and teaching us was appreciated. That’s why I usually hire guides is to learn something new

my largest to date is 23 inches caught on the Oconoluftee river on In Cherokee N.C. I actually caught it wading in the park just outside of "downtown."Kayak Kid wrote:Big deal, Timbo.

Re: Fishing on the Guadaupe
Scott Graham was catching 10-lb rainbows on the Guadalupe in the '90s - he never submitted one for a record.
My best is over 27" and 8 lbs.
We're gonna need a bigger net

Re: Fishing on the Guadaupe
I filmed an episode with KT on endemic Guadalupe bass, and they sent me the Devil's River trip studio master to see what they do.
We fished Waring one day
and private water on Hondo Creek the next

I'd love to do that trip, it may be a little pricey for me... I guess it would mean I couldn't buy another flyrod or reel for a few yearsimaoldmanyoungsalt wrote:I was just looking at their Devils River trip. Man it looks tempting!

I'm hoping that one of my trips this year will be down south will be fishing for reds on the fly. That has to be the ultimate

Imaold...... and Timbo,
The Devil River trip was at the top of my to do list for several years. I kept putting it off for one reason or another untill my aortic valve informed me that I had waited too long.
So, you two, don't wait. Just go..., on what I understand to be as adventurous a kayak freshwater trip as can be found in Texas.

Re: Fishing on the Guadaupe
Back when the state leased the State Natural Area at Vinegarone, we made one weekend campout there.
The ranch the state was leasing for camping and access is still the take-out point for Devils River float trips.
(The current SNA is farther downriver at Amistad)

Re: Fishing on the Guadaupe
I hear ya KK and I know you're right. And I just keep doing the same thing you did by putting it off. My biggest reasons so far has been fear that a 4 or 5 night stay on a hard sleeping surface (or anything other than my bed) would leave me in so much back pain that I may suffer the trip more than I enjoy it and worry that even being able to complete it could be a serious issue. That's why I like the idea of the fly fishing float trip by Reel Fly Adventures from a drift boat and them setting up and making camp each night. While it's not as adventurous a trip as I would prefer I think it would probably be a more enjoyable one.Kayak Kid wrote:Imaold...... and Timbo,
