Never fished West Bay and looking for kayak launch point for 1-18

Post by Hunter25 »

Planning first trip to West Bay tomorrow a.m. Light winds (6mph) winds out of ENE. Anybody know of a good launch spot? Thanks in advance.

I'm glad you asked this for another reason. I would like to saltwater fish more and the issue I have is I'm 2.5-3 hours from the coast and if the family goes, then it has to be Port Aransas.

I'm OK getting a day here and there but trying to find a decent AirBnb/VRBO in an area that's not $200+/night is also an issue. Bay City and some other places have Motels but it's hard to find the rates on some.

I went and looked at Waterman's and saw it was next to Galveston Island State Park and the idea hit me to look at campling in that area too. I've looked at KOA sites in the past but there just aren't that many. I have camping gear and if it's for a night, I wouldn't need to take much so it might be an option for getting on the coast more often and something that I could do for a reasonable nightly price granted it would be less than ideal in the summer months.

Galveston Island State park is a very nice place to camp. A lot of fishing options. A bonus is you can paddle across Lake Como (Watermans would be to the south of that lake) and fish the canal lights at night. The facilities and showers are super nice and clean. I think it's around $15.00 or $17 a night??? The only thing about there these days is the reservations. You need to make them well in advance if it is a weekend. During the week is normally open though.
