On our Estes trip in Sep, staked my boat on Outside Beach while we fished Trout Bayou Cut (caught a lot of fish here)
While we were fishing, Aransas Bay waves were beating Outside Beach oyster fines onto my kayak, and some made it through my lap hatch. The waves were shooting it up through my scuppers.
After 3 subsequent trips, finally had the shell fines rinsed from inside my boat.
Oh, and next time we staked, I staked farther off the beach and avoided the problem.
Have always carried a spare spinning spool and back-up baitcast reel in a net bag in my lap hatch.
The canned spinning spool didn't care, but my reel picked up enough oyster fines, it had that hint of abrasion, which I traced to fines only on the mating plastic surfaces of the LW rider. And I rebuilt the reel completely.
But for a permanent solution, ordered the smallest Pelican box that would hold backup spool and bait reel.
and fits nicely in my lap hatch.
It was actually cheaper than my wallet + phone size Pelican.
The reel came out of it ok, got a nice new set of Air spool bearings, 20-lb braid, and nifty inexpensive EVA knobs from Ukraine
anything Maduro.
