Was wondering if folks had a preference for a marker to place “barring” on tying materials. I have been using Sharpie to do it but was curious about Pantone markers. Sharpie seems to bleed a little into the material when it gets fished; does anyone have experience with this in other products?
Here are some of the flies from recent tying.
Sharpie vs. other markers?
Re: Sharpie vs. other markers?
I think most of my markers are sharpie brand. I might have some Pantone, I’ll have to look.
Seems like the marks fade and wash out over time. I’ve gone back and re-marked a fly if it happens to survive fishing and the marks got all faded out. Craft fur hold marks better than some of the shinier synthetics.
This redfish crack version was once marked with a black sharpie, but the marks are all about gone. Steve Farrar Blend does not hold sharpie marks well at all.
