One of my favorite times of year for catching channels along the shore!
I set up my rig with a cork about 18" to 20" above the hook and work down a rocky shore or brushy shore with cut shad for bait.
Kind of reminds me of casting a top water lure for bass, because I use my trolling motor and move steadily down the bank making short cast and not letting it sit too long in one spot just as you would fish a topwater.
Cats would at times hit the bait as soon as it hit the water. When you caught a couple, you just turned around and worked back through the area, and if you hit two in a row, you stopped and fished that spot longer.
