Native 14.5 Ultimate Tandem/Solo Opinions

Post by BenFishin? »

Looking for opinions on the Native Ultimate 14.5. (Speed, versatility, etc)

I will kayak mostly Solo. But love the idea of being able to have somebody come with or even a dog in the future.

I like the idea of a dryer ride (photography)

Is it worth it ? Or should I get the 15?

Thanks in advance.

I had 2 Native 14.5 Ultimate Tandems, and still have 1 of them. It's a superb kayak, very stable, I've never tipped over, even in some fast and rough water. However, it really is only a tandem for an adult and a small person. Don't let the 450 lb weight capacity fool you. I've paddled twice with another adult (combined weight 310 and 350 lbs) and there was very little freeboard, and those were on a glassy calm day. And there was little room for fishing. It's good as a tandem with a kid or a small teenager. The only other downside is if you're caught in the rain, you have to bail.
