Coast Guard Support

Post by Prof. Salt »

I've been watching the news about Coast Guard rescues and I realized these guys aren't even getting paid right now, but they are out there doing their job and helping others. I want to do something to help the rescuers. My idea was for those of us interested to drop off HEB gift cards, gas cards, or Visa gift cards so they can buy what they need until the checks start coming again. If you're in the Corpus area, Roy's and Fin Factory have volunteered to serve as drop-off spots, and the CG Senior Chief for NAS Corpus Christi has agreed to pick up donations and get them to those who have been hit hardest. If you are in another area, find a way to donate to your local Coasties. They could use a hand right now and they'll appreciate the support!

Any similar effort in the Houston area for dropoffs?

I haven't heard about a similar effort in that area. I am running collections here through Friday. By the time the Senior Chief picks up and distributes those donations, the checks should be arriving (Monday).
