Where do guys put your Kayaks In at on Fayette County
Hey everyone,
I have a question. I fished Fayette County Lake most of younger years with my dad on his boat. But I have a question. Where are you guys putting in your kayaks at to fish the lake? I know of the two parks (Usually used Oak Thicket for boat fishing).
But I was just curious where everyone is putting in at that lets them get to their spots faster. We used to boat over to a couple of the coves from Oak Thicket but with a Kayak that paddle is a longer now

I have not fished my kayak, only my jon boat.
Oak Thicket is best to fish the "fingers" to the east in a kayak. You can also get to the dam water outlet from there but the other launch is closer for that side of lake. Be careful crossing in high winds.

You have 2 parks to launch from. Park Prairie and Oak Thicket. Oak Thicket is best I think also in my opinion. If the boat ramp is real busy you can just drag on over to the left of the ramp in the camping area and put in from the shore. I've camped there and had a good time also. Didn't catch many in the middle of July, but it was still nice. They don't allow ground fires so I just brought my little bbq pit and had a camp fire in it.

What do lures are ya'll using? I put in at oak thicket 2 times in the last 2 1/2 weeks and not even a bite. I was using plastic worms and spinner baits.

Try plastic worms and spinner baits. Also crankbaits and swimbaits.

You can try all the jigs and lures that bass will hit this time of year taking into account the weather. If you can't get a bite from lures you can purchase some "water dogs" as live bait from the store in town before you get to the lake. They are a favorite of the bass there. Rig up a bottom rig and sit back. I caught many with them. Also you can toss a cast net at the ramp for some of the small tilapia as bait and hook one like you would a minnow and let it swim free on bottom rig. Bass and cats love them!

Have you gone to fish there yet? The bass were chowing down on crankbaits and worms this weekend.

They’re building a new kayak launch area at Park Prairie. Last weekend, the new park manager pointed it out to me and said it should be open in a week or two. It’s going in to the east of the fishing dock, well away from the boat ramp. She said they’re reinforcing it with rocks and clearing out some of the trees and whatnot.

It’s open and ready to go now. I didn’t use it though. I launch by the ramp under the trees. Saw 3 Yale launched from there yesterday as I was leaving about 4:30. Maybe they’ll post a report here?
