Yep, I know Chris and he is a good guy. He hasn't been fishing BTB for too long, but he's a quick study. Congrats to him on a real bucket-list fish!

Dreams can come true! Fine job Mr. Castro.

According to TPWD State Saltwater Records: Rod and Reel Updated November 14, 2018;
Sailfish weight 95.00 lbs 97.50" caught Jul 12, 1972 Gulf of Mexico Morton Cohn

This is most likely out of a boat. It's had to tell how much your fish weighed.
Still ...WOW!

They are around more then people think, but like all good things in the ocean water clarity/conditions played a big role. This year I feel we had an abnormal amount of sightings in comparison to recent years, and we've also had an abnormal amount of blue water stick closer to shore for a longer period of time. I'm just glad I never gave up on some old school rigging. Chances of loosing or not hooking this fish would have gone dramatically down had it not been for a simple 44lb stainless steel stinger rig.

I'm as superstitious as they get so karma played a big role in releasing this fish lol. She came in at a minimum of 87 inches. Stern to the "N" on Ocean Kayak but when her body was flush I have photos of her extending to the "A". So this very well could have been a record or close to it which always makes for a good conversation. Point is that I wasn't going to kill this fish for a record or a near record. Recording the entire thing was a blessing in itself...Plus we all know what comes with killing a rare species, and my last name is Castro so it just wouldn't be good publicity :lol:

I was really glad to see you release her.
They are so precious. Records are to be broken.
I really need to get down south and fish BTB more!
Thanks for including us in your joy.
