Bolivar Peninsula Family Vaca - TIPS?

Post by catastrophy »

Anyone familiar with the far East end of the Bolivar Peninsula? We have a family vacation there from the 28th - 1st and have never stayed at this end, always stayed on Galveston Island. The house we have is East of Stingaree, almost directly across from the Anuhuac Wildlife Refuge right on the beach. Specifically right between Caplen and Stingaree.

Looking for tips as far as restaurants, shopping, kid friendly things to do, and most importantly - FISHING LOCATIONS. Im a wader and a yakker and look forward to hopefully taking advantage of some low surf, but any bay side tips or night time location tips would be much appreciated!

TIA

Rollover Pass, the beachfront or paddling from Stingaree across the ICW into East Bay.

Rollover bay is great for yaks. Too shallow for boats and I’ve had the whole bay to myself most times. Always caught fish. You can put in at rollover pass.

Stingarees is a good place to eat.

That stretch of Bolivar is wickedly famous for bull reds not far from the beach...just a little gear and you have great fun. And don't forget about the marshes on the south side of the peninsula for redfish and black drum.

When will you be there. I will be headed that way tomorrow from Austin. Will probably make it between 12 and 1. Have another buddy meeting me at around 3. You're welcome to join us but to be honest this is new fishing for me too. I hear around goat island you can get on em and also West Bay around Sportsman is doing pretty good for trout.

Try "crabbing" instead. I think it may be more fun and smell better.
