Kayak fishing the Lone Star State...

I have had a Garmin Stiker 4DV in my kayak for over a year. It is great for showing depth, bottom contour, and structure. I have the transducer in a PU foam block filled with water mounted inside the hull so it shoots through the hull. I don't remember ever seeing anything that looked like a fish return on any of the screens. Is this normal, or am I doing something wrong?

Ive got a similar set up in my yak, and although it isnt clear by any means, I have been able to recognize some of the big blobs as fish... More importantly recently I have begin recognizing smaller schools of bait , which has been useful recently in targeting bait fish. It isnt the best on the market, but useful for what I need it for - depth, gps, structure, and schools of small baitfish.
