One of the best things about summertime fishing . . .

Ice Cold Watermelon –
It is hot out there, you have been fishing a couple of hours, had some drinks to stay hydrated – they are OK.
Then you remember you have some watermelon on ice. Yee haw –
It’s got to be on ice, warm watermelon is just not the same!!

Well, dangit! Now I gotta stop on the way home tomorrow and pick up a watermelon. Or a cantaloupe. Or both....

Cold pineapple spears or chunks are very good on salt water. Fresh is better but canned is ok.

It's all good - especially when you're hot and they're cold!

Just finished dicing up a nice sized "seedless" watermelon.
I just wish I could find a black diamond. They were great when I was growing up.

Ice cold watermelon is hard to beat out on the water. Fresh iced down Mango filets are super good too.

I had just finished dicing up a watermelon that had been in the refrigerator and so was cold and tasty - I was reminded of having it on fishing outings, hence the post. I have also taken both pineapple and cantaloupe, both excellent as well.

I have not tried mango (on a fishing outing), but it must be good and so will try.
This also brings up another tropical fruit - papaya! I have not tried this yet but I do have them on occasion - will add it to my list.

Sort of like lures - too many to try out!

Now I got to go get me a watermelon tomorrow for Tuesday. Nothing like ice cold watermelon for a refreshing snack on a hot day. Anywhere.

All this talk about watermelon and there I am in line at a restaurant to get lunch and I see Watermelon-Tomato Salad. "WTH is that," I say to myself, yet, curious, I order it. I'll be damned. That stuff was gooooood. Watermelon, tomatoes, finely chopped fresh basil, some even thinner sliced red onion, a smidge of feta cheese and oil & vinegar for a dressing. Who'da thunk it?

Yaklash - Sounds like you were in line at an HISD cafeteria - I recently saw a report on the local news of their new menu for this year with some items included not normally associated with a school cafeteria.

One of my favorites is Jicama. Peel it, cube it, then add habanero and lime. it's good on the boat all year.
