If I fish mostly fresh water with an occasional trip to the coast do I need a salt water motor? Thanks

Especially if it is only once or twice a year.

The only exposed parts to the salt water are your drive shaft and metal parts on the control unit. If your in salt for the day bring a jug of fresh water to rinse drive shaft inside prop housing immediately after you pull load up. The seal inside keeps the water from entering the motor housing so theres no worries there. I would rinse and turn on the troller (1st speed is fine) then rinse again to make sure you get all the saltwater out of the seal area on the shaft. This will prolong the life of your unit.

Nope, just rinse it with fresh water after each use.
