Tied this one this morning. Made the tail from flash and epoxy flattened between wet fingers and left to dry. Gold, silver and holographic flash and pink chenille wrapped around large piece of foam to add buoyancy on the inside of mylar tube. Sharpie for spots and back.

Bought some reflective material and tied some spoons today. Gonna get a template to make the spoons uniform in size and cleaner edges.

Kingback,
Those thingy minnows look awesome. I believe they will look awesome to the fish too. I'm gonna try it, but, I'm not too sure if I know how to tie the tail.

Aside from wishing someone would clean out the spam of this "RichardHisk" and ban that loser, I've been tying some of Ike Berry's foam beetles (R.I.P. Ike)

Cuervo-- Next time you come to Spinney let me know, those foam beetles are deadly on shallow water rainbows.

Good to know and thanks. Looks like my trout-chasing pursuits this year will be in Utah and Wyoming, but if Colorado comes a-calling, I'll be hauling my float tube to Spinney for sure!

Looking good there, Cuervo. Chased the bucket mouth bass today, I could have used those flies.

Headed to the Guadalupe tomorrow. Wading - not in the Amigo. Tied these size 12 and 14 nymphs up tonight to try and get deep in these heavy flows tight line nymphing. Image

First post with pics. Hope it works.

These took several days. My attempt at Kirk Dietrich's Rabid Dogs. A topwater that darts, dives, and/or walks like a spook. Made from balsa and wrapped with candy wrapper foil. Also my first attempt at airbrushing something. They came out a little crude in places, but they should catch fish. Took a bit a lead wire to get them to float tail low. Will test them in the neighborhood lake this weekend. Found an Amazon card the other day and ordered a Copic Airbrush for the next batch.

I need to make 4212 of these to break even.

Stuck on shrimp. Keep tweaking this fly. It keeps catching fish. Adding different flash, chennile and more legs. What I've observed is that most of the color of the shrimp when in the water comes from the underlying layer of chennile. Tried to do a baitcasting version on a 1/0 hook, but it's not quite heavy enough.
Trying to imitate these shrimp found in 2 redfish Thursday. My apologies to C&R folks. I occasionally eat my friends.

Absolutely, tie all you want! I just borrowed ideas from other tiers.

I was looking at shrimp in a bait tank last year and the main thing I noticed were those two dark eyes. Every pattern must have a good pair of eyes.

I wonder, probably more than I should, on what decision making process a fish goes through from noticing the fly to the eat (or refusal). I surely have witnessed refusals by sight casted redfish on paddle tails only to have them moments later take a fly. Why did that fish make the decision to commit to the eat of one and the denial of the other? I hear stuff that it really doesn't matter what is thrown at them, the fish will eat about anything, but that seems to be mostly BS. I do believe that on some days the fly needs to be almost entirely correct to get the take. Some days, a jalapeño or any piece of fluff will work, other days, the size, color, shape, and movement better be about right to get the eat.

I've had plenty of eats on my flies. Last time out, I saw fish that went for the fly and somehow missed or aborted the take at the last second. WHY? Something was incorrect. The presentation, the fly, something. I connected with fish, some got fooled, some didn't. What can I control on the equation? The fly and how it's made. The cast and how it's presented. You work on what's in your control.

# 10 and 12 hopper. I tend to spend a lot more time on my 3wt hence the smaller sizes.

Haven't tied in a while, I'm headed to the Llano this weekend and Nueces next weekend. So it's time to replenish my box. Tied up some classics. Is it just me but the grindle bug/pats rubber legs are so simple with only 2 materials, but all the legs going everywhere can make them a pain in the butt to tie? Tonight the goal is some clousers.

What did you tie today?

Back at the vise finally and working on different variations of kastopo's shrimp. Tied this one with a rattle, lead eyes for weight and then a tan rabbit zonker palmered around the hook for the body.

When wet...

I've always like how rabbit zonkers move in the water so we'll see how this works.
