New BYB kayak options

Post by Kodiakk »

I own a Malibu X-factor for fishing. Love it, but it's leaking pretty bad now days. Looking at possibly buying another kayak. Looking for a extremely stable kayak for a big guy. I'm 6'4" 280LBS. Anywhere to start researching? Wish they still sold the Malibu X-factor since I loved it.

I agree with your opinion about the Malibu X-Factor. I paddled one for years and it still hangs in my garage.

According to the Malibu website they still make the X-Factor. http://www.malibukayaks.com/kayaks/x-factor/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The problem may be finding a Malibu dealer in your area as they seem to be few and far between.

Good luck!

Look up Smith Family Tackle. He's who I bought my Malibu stealth 12 from a few years back and as far as I'm aware he's still selling them. Wishing now that I had bought an x-factor though.

I think we all know what Prof. Salt would say. Santa Cruz makes a great kayak!

Santa Cruz is a great kayak but I don't believe it would work for Kodiakk. He weighs 280 lbs and the Raptor max weight is around 350 lbs. Kodiakk would be cutting it pretty close after you add gear and other essentials.

He may have to look into another Malibu or Big Game, PA 14, things of that nature that have a heavier weight capacity.

No, no..............a drifter would be wet, at his weight and he would have to plug the scupper holes...........I know, Drifter was my first kayak.

If its just the hatches leaking and not actual cracks in the hull why not just replace the seals or even the entire hatch? My stealth 12 leaks pretty bad when you get water over the deck so I'm doing the same thing and adding an electric bilge pump and am going to call it good.

Here is a vendor: http://www.kayakfishingsupplies.com/mal ... kit-yes-50" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Shipping may be brutal but if you can't find a vendor that is close...BPS used to carry these.

I sure like my Trident Ultra 4.3, but the X-Factor is sweet.

Hobie AI with traps

OK BigGame II
Fishndive by cobra

Bigrig by jackson

These r in order. Ive had 2 malibu xfactors. They didnt hold up :-(
Mariner sales took care of the problems. 1st leaks were at the hatches.
Then they cracked at seat and or scupper :( loved all the hatches.
Very stable and paddled well when hull wasnt takin on water :/
The new Big game II come with nice comfy high low seat.
Its stable and paddles much better than the originals.
Everyone who paddles mine has good things to say about it.
